Dam Busters

Beaver Dams on Cattell Brook have been a problem for Dian Murrell for many years. This year with the help of volunteers from the Association for the Protection of Fur Bearing Animals she is trying out a humane way to discourage the pesky critters.
The concept of this type of fence is that the beaver does not know how to build on the long sides of the fence and will eventually give up and move on. If they do succeed in damming this fence, then a flow pipe will be inserted, which will allow the beaver to stay and the water to flow. So it will be interesting to see what happens. This is thought to be the first time that this has been tried in Maple Ridge and if successful it could be a template for other areas.

Good work my compliments! Lucky there are associations that are perceivable and sensitive towards nature and that actually do something about helping it coincide with today’s society.
