- This is regular walking and biking route for myself and my six year old boys. The excessive speed of vehicles passing is scary and uneccesary. I would love to see some sort of calming measures in place to make the area safe!
- I would support 3 way stops at 220 St, Park Lane, AND Cedar Way. Our family has owned property on Park Lane since the 1960’s and it now takes up to 5 minutes to turn left onto 132nd (which is part of our protective dyke) from Park Lane due to excessive traffic. I feel that 3 way stops could deter speeders and allow time for horse trailers etc. to make turns when required.
- I support traffic calming measures and/or 3-way stops at Cedar Way, Park Lane, and 220th Street.
- I support traffic calming measures and/or 3 way stop signs at Park Lane, Cedar Way, and 220th Streets. I can wait over 5 minutes just to turn off my street to commute to university and work.
- We are in agreement
- Want pedestrians and riders to feel safe on this road! I walk from my house in rock ridge on this trail to my barn on 132nd almost daily and sometimes am a little fearful of a car going through the barricade!
- Blind corner
- Really bad corner!
- We have 2 small children and do not feel safe having our kids playing in the front yard.
- The volume and speed of the traffic along here is ridiculous! Very poor planning by the municipality/city!!!.
- Beautiful place to have ruined by traffic.
- Slow down, Silver valley path user.
- I use the walking path when visiting. Please slow down.
- Too much speeding on the corner, impossible to get out of my driveway.
- Slow Down
- People need to slow down. Dangerous
- We need to slow the traffic down as our families and wildlife live here. 132 ave is becoming a more dangerous road due to reckless drivers
- Traffic calming measures are definitely needed in this area
- Slow the traffic down on this street, it’s so dangerous.
- The volume and speed of the traffic on this street is unacceptable
- I walk along 132 Ave and 224 to get to the two main parks I bring my two year old daughter to. They are both such beautiful streets. However, I have seen countless speeders which is what I believe just an accident waiting to happen. I have seen two drivers almost kill young deer that were frantically trying to find their way across. I have also seen the aftermath of two separate drivers veering off the road on 132nd Ave into the wood barriers. The wood barriers did not hold up and if someone had been standing there, I doubt they would have done much to protect them. Let’s not wait until something tragic occurs and move quickly to impose the plan of this petition. Thank you!
- In the 4 years of visiting family who live on 132, this road has certainly changed, sadly not for the better. The traffic is much faster and walking along to the general store, can be quite a scary experience. Walking with my grandchildren, even with the fencing now in place, some, though I have to say not all, drivers have absolutely no regard for anyone on the footpath. Let’s hope sanity will prevail and the powers that be will see the sense in making this a safer place for residents and drivers alike.
- I saw a sign that said to sign the petition
- Would love to see some more street lighting on 224th between Abernathy and 136th Avenue as well.
- this needs to be a safe route for bikes, and slower traffic for getting to our parks and trails
- it is a narrow road and drivers need to slow down to protect people and wildlife
- We need to do something to slow people down – it’s dangerous!
- Want pedestrians and riders to feel safe on this road! I walk from my house in rock ridge on this trail to my barn on 132nd almost daily and sometimes am a little fearful of a car going through the barricade!
- Been riding my bike on 132 Ave. since 1978. Wouldn’t mind seeing much more police presence OR speed bumps from beginning to end, and bike lanes. Thanks!
- I have done more to calm traffic than all those expensive wooden fences

- The traffic on 224 street has gotten steadily worse over the years and the speeding is ridiculous
- I utilize this area as an equestrian on a daily basis. I board my horse at a small facility across from Maple Ridge Equestrian Center on 132nd. I have to walk my horse over to the Equestrian Center to ride. Unfortunately, I am not on a part of 132nd where the dedicated and bounded non-vehicle pathway is present. I have had numerous close calls and am astounded at how ignorant many drivers are when it comes to the safety of me, my horses and even themselves. There is plenty of signage trying to educate drivers (handmade signs on driveways and official city provided street signage), but it doesn’t seem to be acknowledged. Something desperately needs to be done to protect the safety of all recreational users on this road.
- Equestrian center visitor and trail user in the area.
- Greater understanding of the safety issues dealt with on a daily basis by the equestrians in Maple Ridge We need to work together to find a solution to co exist in our ever growing community
- Using trail while visiting Silver Ridge relatives. Walks 136a – 224s -132a – 232s circle
- The speed factor on 224 is out of Control. Our dog was hit in September and left in the ditch. There have been numberous issues of vehicles passing vehicles that are obeying the speed limit. Our road is used for all kinds of outdoor enthusiasts.
- Something has to be done before there is a major incident involving an innocent citizen.
- Good idea to direct Alouette Lake traffic away to Abernathy. No signage for the lake after 224th on 132nd leads to confusion and literally hundreds of turn arounds in our driveway on a long weekend
- Traffic should be encourage to use Abernathy Way as it was designed to be used.
- I want to sign petition
- Cars are moving much too fast on my street, ignoring the speed limit!
- Most cars are doing close to 80km per hour. I’ve been past several times. Very dangerous road.
- Won’t even walk on that road, been passed, tailgated, almost crashed into from behind trying to pull into driveway
- Traffic is too dense and fast at certain times. A chicane in front of the riding centre would really help to slow things down. Or, even consider enforcing the speed limit and no passing rule. This would discourage those with poor driving habits. I see these rules broken on numerous occasions, daily.
- Slow down! x 3
- So I have a speed reader sign up on 132 Ave for the last 4 and 1/2 years and the neighbors on Edge Street love that I did that as the traffic usually slows 10 km or more once they are notified that they are driving at 80 km or more in a 50 km zone. So this last year I put up my own traffic notification sign alerting drivers that the speed limit is 50 km. hour and that is right above my own speed reader sign. Now if the muni put signs on both approaches to the Edge Street Bridge along 132 and puts signs along 224th Street midpoint about where my property fronts onto 224th Street, then the crazy speeders will get their shot of wake up call about how fast they are actually proceeding. These signs cost less than 3 thousand (I know I bought one) and they are easy to install. They can be solar powered or hard wired. Hard wired is best.
- Slow down, good for the neighborhood !
- safety long overdue
- road no longer safe
- only a matter of time before someone is hurt
- Not Safe x 4
- Better with fence but still a long way to go for safety
- Heavy trucks not local should not be on this road. Too much traffic Not Safe
- many people passing, speeding, tailgating
- corner from hell
- Poor fencework
- Corner of Death
- Too Noisy

- We need to find a way to slow the traffic down and move it to an appropriate road, which is Abernathy, not 132ave.
- I cannot even cross the street to get my news paper because of the traffic.
- Please slow the traffic down
- We need to decrease and slow the traffic down
- I love the new fence, I can now ride my bike to my friends house. The cars still drive really fast by me. Age 10.
- We need to bring this back to a locals only road, it is not designed for this much traffic.
- The cars move so fast down the road, my Mom doesn’t let me ride my bike alone on the path. If there were less cars and they drove slower I would be allowed. August age 7.
- The traffic is so bad now and many people speed so any thing to make 132nd safer I am all for
- My horse and i walk these roads and its terrifying how fast people fly by us….
- Non-local traffic should be diverted to Abernathy and traffic calming measures need to be enforced on 132nd. There are a lot of children in this neighbourhood and the reckless driving that we witness every day is going to end in tragedy.
- Something needs to be done.
- I ride my horse on the streets. I need it to be safer
- Something has to be done to make our roadways safer for all users.
- I have horses on this road and the speeding traffic is worse than ever. Speed bumps might help?
- It is unavoidable when trail riding to not have to cross sections of roadway. People are horrible! They don’t slow down, honk, yell out the window and have a total disregard for people on horseback.
- I think this is a good idea. I have been in 3 major accidents on 132nd Avenue, we can’t turn in or out of our driveway without caution as drivers make e legal moves to avoid waiting, hundreds of dead or injured animals are dragged off my driveway or front street, I cannot even put out the recycling without dodging speeding traffic rounding the corner. I just spent $2700 to repair my front fence for the third time. All of these issues are speeding drivers rounding the “gentle corner” from hell.
- It is about time something is done, 132nd Avenue has become a dangerous race track.
- It’s about time, 132nd Avenue has become very, very dangerous!
- 132 is like a speedway. People easily do 80km and more and with all the horses and people walking it’s dangerous. If there was some speed control more would use abernethy as it was designed.
- Let’s have the streets quiet again.
Comments to June 3
- travels way too fast. We ourselves have been involved two incidents of reckless driving right outside our property 132 Ave very dangerous. Non-local traffic should be directed to Abernathy Way
- Excessive Speeding, illegal passing, and please divert overweight trucks off 132 ave
- The traffic is not only heavy but also many spreaders. Traffic calming would definitely be appreciated and it is also needed.
- Please, let’s work through a better solution, as the noise and speed is too much. It is not safe for wildlife and pedestrians!
- I fully support the initiative to slow traffic in our neighbourhood.
- I ride my horse north on 216 from 128 to access the trails and the dykes. I also ride over to 224 and ride north from 128 there. I am very concerned with the speed and total disregard most drivers have for horseback riders
- I have horses on 242nd near Fern Crescent. It has gotten ridiculous and dangerous for pedestrians, cyclists, and those on horseback or walking dogs. PLEASE do something before someone is killed!
- Very dangerous driving in this area.
- It is like a freeway with the reader board near edge street registering an average of 69 Kmh.
- The traffic is getting heavier and the drivers are going faster. To access any trail on my horse, we are forced to compete with traffic for road space. It’s dangerous for the drivers, myself and my horse.
- too many speeders going down 232nd/132nd/128th-wildlife and horse are constantly threatened by speeders and city people. Maple Ridge is becoming congested with traffic and the side streets are being used as a speedway. Not acceptable.
- Wildlife constantly crosses 132 Ave and have witnessed multiple accidents. I think the speed issue definitely needs to be addressed. Thank you
132 Ave from 232 St to 216 St has always been a problem area for speeders. - I used to live at 22218 132nd Avenue 30 years ago. The traffic has increased exponentially. Speed of vehicle travel on 132nd sometimes exceeds 100 kph. This is absurd in an area full of wildlife, pedestrians, equestrians and cyclists. Yes, the pathway helps, but it doesn’t extend past 220th to 216. Even more police enforcement, especially during rush hour, might help slow traffic.
- I used to ride my horses down these roads and definitely have seen an increase in traffic and complete disrespect from the drivers to us on horseback.
- This has been a long time coming!!
- A huge problem that needs fixing…
- Too much heavy traffic that should be on Abernathy. Also, visitors to Alouette Lake who use their GPS are directed to drive on 132 avenue. Tradesmen who use this route throw their garbage out the window. Deer and bears are often crossing 132 av where I live. Most everyone speeds on this road.
- Road is dangerous; excessive speeding, road rage, unsafe passing, heavy trucks with trailers and with full loads speeding, Edge street bridge unsafe for pedestrians as there is no barrier, homeowners having difficulty accessing and leaving their driveways.
- Traffic calming along 132nd will definitely help protect citizens, horses and wildlife that live in the Alouette River Valley. Very necessary!
- Traffic calming on 224th street is urgently needed
- We definitely approve of this petition. After living in the Alouette Valley area for more than 10 years, the changes we saw have been anything but what this beautiful neighbourhood has become. It’s a shame to push such crowded living spaces into an area that we cannot claw back after every piece of land is replaced by Condos and Huge Homes.
- Please make the trail access safe for all users
- Slow down the traffic
- Definitely need speed inhibitors.
- Cars are speeding, easily 70 KPH along 132nd between 232 and 224th, thank goodness for the barricade, also on 224 north of 132nd. cars are going very fast and there are no sidewalks and very little space to walk or cycle.
- With all the traffic it’s harder to get onto 132nd Ave from Edge Street
- “I have witnessed many horrible driving practices down 224th Street. As a young girl, I knew a horse that was struck by some of these careless actions. Something must be done.”
